Couple Counseling and Psychotherapy In couple or marital counseling, the repeated patterns and cycles of interaction that interfere with getting along and having a good time together are identified. We clarify what skills protect relationship, allow partners to work through difficult times and decrease discord. I encourage new ways of interacting. Differences are explored using dialogue. Individual growth and self-discovery can be an added benefit to the crucible of couple therapy.
If we can overcome the practical challenge of meeting virtually, we first meet with the two of you for one and a half sessions and if we decide to continue, I schedule a single session with each one of you before the next meeting. Usually, couples sessions take place once a month because couple work can stir difficult feelings. The time in between sessions gives you a chance to practice new skills. |
In pre-marital counseling, I ask partners to describe how they will address the concerns that couples typically face in the course of their committed relationship and learn or improve how to dialogue collaboratively.
